Chapter 276: Earth’s Chains
Chapter 276: Earth’s Chains
Earth’s Chains
Her gaze swept across the battered group.
Then she spoke.
"You guys head back to town and recuperate. I’ll handle the oversized lizard."
This girl that had no motivation as she casually said she would deal with an undead dragon, was the one and only Guild Master of Fantom City’s adventurers’ guild, Isabella.
Silence followed her declaration.
Not because anyone doubted what she had said.
But because of how casually she had said it.
The undead dragon that had nearly wiped out all of them.
The monster that had forced Ruby, Natalia, Videl, Brinda, and Clara to pour every last drop of mana into a single defensive barrier.
The same creature that had frozen an entire battlefield.
To Isabella, it was simply an oversized lizard.
Eon stared at her.
Then at the dragon.
Then back at her.
"...You’re insane."
Isabella yawned.
"Maybe."
Videl frowned.
"That thing almost killed us."
"It almost killed you."
The correction came instantly.
The guild master stretched lazily.
Her purple hair swayed in the cold wind.
"There’s a difference."
Natalia narrowed her eyes.
"You seem awfully confident."
"I am."
Ruby crossed her arms.
For once, even she couldn’t find anything to say.
Because Isabella’s confidence didn’t feel arrogant.
It felt natural.
Like she was merely stating a fact.
Behind them, the undead dragon roared furiously.
The sound echoed across the frozen plains.
Its prey had escaped.
Again.
Green flames burned wildly inside its skull.
Its gaze eventually locked onto the source of the disturbance.
Isabella.
The lone woman standing before it.
The dragon’s enormous head slowly lowered.
Its killing intent surged.
The surrounding temperature dropped.
Even from hundreds of meters away, everyone could feel the pressure.
The dragon had chosen its target.
Isabella sighed.
"Great."
Another sigh.
"As if my paperwork wasn’t already bad enough."
Videl blinked.
"You’re worried about paperwork?"
"Of course."
The guild master looked genuinely annoyed.
"If that thing destroys half the city, guess who has to write the report?"
Nobody knew how to respond.
The dragon clearly didn’t appreciate being ignored.
ROOOOOAAAAARRRR!!
The earth shook violently.
The undead dragon launched itself forward.
Its gigantic wings spread across the sky.
Green death mana exploded outward.
Like a falling mountain, the monster descended toward Isabella.
The pressure alone shattered frozen rocks.
Cracks spread across the icy battlefield.
Yet Isabella remained exactly where she was.
Motionless.
Yawning.
Ruby stared.
"She’s not moving."
Natalia frowned.
"Either she’s incredibly powerful..."
"Or incredibly stupid."
"Let’s hope it’s the first."
The dragon landed several meters away.
BOOOOOOM!
The impact sent shockwaves across the plains.
Snow and frozen debris exploded into the air.
Its colossal skeletal frame towered above Isabella.
The contrast was absurd.
One was a legendary undead dragon.
The other looked like a woman who had just woken up from a nap.
The dragon lowered its head.
Its glowing eyes fixed on her.
Trying to intimidate.
Trying to dominate.
Trying to crush her spirit before the fight even began.
Nothing happened.
Isabella simply looked up.
Then tilted her head.
"Huh."
The dragon growled.
"Huh?" Isabella repeated.
A pause.
Then she pointed toward its skull.
"You’re missing a few pieces there."
The dragon froze.
Ruby nearly choked.
Natalia covered her face.
Videl looked genuinely horrified.
"Did she just insult a dragon?"
"Yes," Eon answered.
"She absolutely did."
The undead dragon’s fury exploded.
Green flames erupted from every gap in its skeleton.
Death mana surged.
The surrounding ground cracked.
The monster’s massive jaws opened.
Rows upon rows of razor-sharp teeth became visible.
Then it charged.
Everything in its path exploded.
The frozen earth shattered.
Its gigantic body became a blur.
The dragon wanted only one thing.
To devour the irritating woman standing before it.
Still.
Isabella didn’t move.
She didn’t summon a weapon.
She didn’t draw a blade.
She didn’t even raise her guard.
She merely exhaled.
"You’re loud."
The dragon was already upon her.
Its jaws large enough to swallow her whole.
Then Isabella finally spoke.
Her voice was soft.
Barely louder than a whisper.
Yet somehow...
Everyone heard it.
The wind carried it.
The frozen plains echoed it.
The earth itself seemed to listen.
"[Earth Bind]"
Snap.
Her fingers snapped together.
The sound was small.
Almost insignificant.
Then the world changed.
The frozen ground trembled.
A deep rumbling sound echoed beneath everyone’s feet.
Videl’s eyes widened.
"What is that?"
The answer came immediately.
CRAAAAACK!
The earth split apart.
Not in one place.
Not in ten places.
Everywhere.
Massive fissures opened throughout the battlefield.
The frozen landscape shattered.
Chunks of ice exploded skyward.
The dragon abruptly slowed.
For the first time, uncertainty appeared in its burning gaze.
Something was coming.
Something ancient.
Something powerful.
From beneath the earth.
The cracks widened further.
Then—
BOOOOM!
Gigantic vines erupted from the ground.
Not ordinary vines.
These looked like living dragons themselves.
Thick as ancient trees.
Covered in stone-like bark.
Glowing emerald runes flowed across their surfaces.
One.
Two.
Ten.
Hundreds.
The battlefield transformed instantly.
The frozen wasteland became a forest of living chains.
The vines surged upward with terrifying speed.
The dragon tried to evade.
Too late.
The first vine wrapped around its left leg.
The second seized its right wing.
The third coiled around its neck.
Then dozens more followed.
The undead dragon roared.
Its massive body struggled violently.
The vines tightened.
CRACK!
The sound of bones grinding echoed across the plains.
Ruby’s mouth slowly opened.
"...What."
Natalia blinked.
Once.
Twice.
Then again.
"I believe..."
She paused.
"...that she just rooted a dragon."
The dragon thrashed harder.
The earth answered.
More vines emerged.
Like an endless tide.
Each one moved with frightening precision.
They wrapped around the dragon’s ribs.
Its tail.
Its wings.
Its claws.
Every attempt to break free only resulted in more restraints appearing.
The creature that had dominated the battlefield moments ago was now being dragged downward.
The ground beneath it cracked.
The vines anchored themselves deep into the earth.
Like chains forged by nature itself.
The undead dragon roared again.
This time it sounded less threatening.
And far more frustrated.
Isabella scratched her cheek.
"Would you stay still?"
The dragon roared louder.
"I’ll take that as a no."
More vines erupted.
BOOM!
The dragon was forced onto one knee.
The entire battlefield fell silent.
Everyone stared.
Videl.
Ruby.
Natalia.
Brinda.
Clara.
Even Eon.
Nobody knew what to say.
The impossible scene unfolded before their eyes.
The monster that had pushed them to the brink.
The creature that had nearly erased them from existence.
Was currently being restrained like an unruly pet.
All because one lazy guild master had snapped her fingers.
Isabella then spoke in a soft voice, but for some reason, it echoed throughout the plains.
"[Earth Bind]"
Isabella then snapped his fingers and large vines sprouted from the ground binding the charging undead dragon.
