Chapter 1571 1571: Epilogue Supplemental
Chapter 1571 1571: Epilogue Supplemental
(Sorry, it's my first time writing, I really didn't know I'd mess up the ending this badly, my bad.)
Jimmy opened the door and shouted, "Nia, hasn't Liam come back yet?"
Nia came down to the stairs from her room upstairs, looked down and said, "No, Father White called to say Liam will be staying at St. Andrew's Church for dinner tonight and will be sent back later, so we don't have to worry."
Jimmy: "OK, seems like he's having a great time there."
Nia nodded, went back to her room, and continued organizing her closet.
Jimmy took off his coat and went into the kitchen; today was the day Roland was coming back. Over the years of traveling between the two worlds, Roland had become very familiar with it, even confirming the timing in advance for convenience of scheduling. Otherwise, if the basement door was closed, he wouldn't be able to come out, which would be quite troublesome. Jimmy came back early to prepare dinner and later chat with Roland about things on the other side.
Nia and Liam had both been to the Dark Tower World, though they hadn't ventured far beyond the ruins, just wandered around nearby. They used to consider where to vacation, but after going twice, Nia directly decided that future vacations should be to the Dark Tower World. Although it's a bit primitive there, it has less crowd, and the scenery is better. Spending some time wandering there beats any National Park by far.
However, Liam went there when he was young. Now that he's a bit older, Jimmy didn't dare let him go again, at least not until he knows what needs to be kept secret and can't tell others about the Dark Tower World. You can't expect a young child to keep secrets; it's just in their nature, nothing can be done about it.
Time was getting close, so Jimmy laid out dinner on the dining table and went to the basement to wait. After a while, the portal suddenly lit up. Soon the bright light turned into a soft frosted glass state, and Roland stepped into the basement. He closed the portal on the control panel before greeting Jimmy.
Jimmy: "Oh, you've changed your clothes, huh? This outfit looks good too."
Roland used to always wear a trench coat and boots for his travels, but this time he was dressed in a light yellow linen robe, which was quite rare.
Roland: "Yeah, just gave them a lesson."
Jimmy: "Come on up; we'll talk properly later."
Roland finished washing up, changed into clothes laid out for him outside the bathroom, and sat down in the dining room. "Wow, what a grand dinner."
Jimmy: "At least in terms of supplies, it's way better than over there. Let's eat first. How's your training school going?"
Roland picked up his fork, skewered a piece of lamb rib, and put it in his mouth, mumbling, "Just started, it's still uncertain if any of the little ones can complete the training."
Jimmy: "That's not too bad, at least there's some hope. A Gunman always needs someone to inherit the mantle."
Roland's chewing slowed down, and he sighed, "It's a pity you can't always be over there."
Jimmy: "If you can teach me, you can surely teach others. I can't leave here."
Roland swallowed the lamb, took a sip of beer, "I hope so. By the way, the solar panels over there have some issues, so I need to take some back this time."
Jimmy nodded, and Roland looked at Nia: "Where's little Liam? Haven't seen him."
"He's at the church, should be back soon."
Roland: "Oh, by the way, Jimmy, would you like Liam to spend some time with me over there?"
"No, no, he's still too young, maybe when he's a bit older."
Jimmy refused very decisively. It's not the right time. Little Liam has inherited part of Jimmy's physiological abilities and has already exhibited strength far beyond children his age. This is seen by Father White and Father Rodney as a very clear sign that may indicate the little one has indeed inherited Jimmy's constitution. If Liam weren't so young, they wouldn't even have let him board at the church school; they would have taken action immediately.
Roland knew this very well. What Jimmy is capable of, little Liam likely could be, too. And since the child is still young, developing some Flash Spirit ability isn't out of the question, making it all the more precious. But, unfortunately, it's the same conclusion: Jimmy absolutely will not allow the little one to go to the Dark Tower World now. The consequences of leaking information are too severe to risk.
Roland wouldn't be staying long this time either; there are people waiting for his training on the other side. So, once he got the supplies, he returned. Having attachments is good; who knows how Roland would spend the rest of his life if he had nothing to pursue.

At Kevin's house, Nia and Liam were chatting with their mother, while Jimmy and Kevin were drinking in the study, "Jimmy, is there some movement on your side lately?"
Kevin was still the commissioner of the NYPD but was planning ahead. The mayor had successfully been re-elected, but now, it seemed likely that the third term would be hard to achieve, so he had to prepare for further advancement.
Jimmy sipped his beer and nodded, "They've been too over-the-top. Yesterday, they had a gunfight in the busiest nightclub. Though no bodies were found, the witnesses at the scene said many were shot in the head. Clearly, the bodies and most of the blood were cleaned up by those Russians. I've already sent people to investigate."
Kevin: "Hmm, firing in public does have a very bad impact. Things had calmed down so much over the years, and suddenly such a major event occurs. A little pressure might be good."
Jimmy: "Let's see the investigation results. If they don't provide an explanation, they can't blame me for giving them a hard time. The anti-gang squad hasn't caught a big fish in a long time."
Kevin: "Isn't it because you went overboard in recent years... The Mafia went from five families to three, the Harlem King and the Brooklyn Brotherhood, MS13 and the Street Devils, Watts Titan—none of them weren't sent to prison by you. If we hadn't put a large number of officers on the streets, who knows how many gang wars might have broken out back then."
Jimmy: "They dare! Anyone who touches me, I'll catch them. Don't expect to live an easy life if they stir up trouble."
Kevin waved his hand: "Alright, you're already in the office, don't get so worked up. By the way, there's a party fundraising gala next Friday night, come with me."
Jimmy: "No problem, here's to the future mayor."

Flipping through the brief, Jimmy slammed the document onto the table, opened a drawer, and took out an anonymous phone to dial, "Charon, it's me."
Charon: "I'm listening, sir."
Jimmy: "I've got news that Vigo had an accident at the abandoned shipyard last night. What happened?"
Charon: "I don't have any information yet."
Jimmy: "Nonsense, the Trasov people have been having consecutive incidents lately. How could you not have any information?"
Charon: "Sorry, hold on. ... The manager wants to talk to you."
Winston's voice came through: "We'll handle this, no need to worry."
Jimmy: "Are you sure? Without suppression, a lot of trouble will arise again."
Winston: "Yes, I'm sure, we'll manage it."
Jimmy: "OK, I'll be waiting for news."
A gang leader's death brings more than just a struggle among heirs, it could likely lead to other gangs annexing territories. In past experience, many people get restless at times like these, and the Trasov family's territory and business are extensive.
Jimmy had previously received information from Winston that the Trasov family is associated with hotels, so he personally talked to Vigo before, keeping them in check as long as they didn't cross the line. Unexpectedly, after a few years of peace, chaos is starting again.
He arranged for the anti-gang unit to focus on Little Russia, and after a week with no major incidents, Jimmy finally believed that the hotel side had cleaned things up. That's good, gradually withdrawing surveillance to shift focus to other gangs.
Since becoming the assistant investigator supervisor, Jimmy has almost never been on-site for tasks and is increasingly becoming a standard manager. Sometimes he really misses wandering around outside, but unfortunately, he'll likely have fewer opportunities in the future.
After work, Jimmy left the office. Today is a big day; he needs to attend a special gathering.
The first psychologist he met after coming to New York, Mary, finally decided to officially marry Jenna. Yes, the two beauties are planning to hold a formal wedding, which indicates that in recent years society has increasingly accepted LGBT individuals, or perhaps the trend has arrived, prompting them to finally decide to publicly register.
Not everyone gets invited to the wedding, so those who can't attend met at the "single party" beforehand. Although a single party, both of them will appear.
Jimmy has known them for quite some time, so he definitely wouldn't miss this gathering. However, upon arriving, he realized it wasn't quite suited for him to stay long, as the various people there were somewhat challenging for his nerves. After congratulating Mary and Jenna and giving his gifts, he left.

Standing in the rooftop garden, Jimmy overlooked Manhattan's city skyline. Although it was daytime, without the illumination of the night lights, the view was still very captivating. It's no wonder people like living in high-rises.
"Is it all settled?" He turned his head to look at Dave beside him. Dave nodded, "Headquarters has approved. I'll retire next month."
Jimmy: "I'll really miss you. You've taken care of me all these years, otherwise I'd surely have been kicked out of the office."
Dave smiled and said, "Don't undervalue yourself. Nobody will touch you, rest assured."
Jimmy shrugged: "Even if no one touches, there's no going up. These days are really tough."
Dave: "Don't overthink it, just hang in there for a few more years. You're still young, aren't you? After I retire, I'll return to Miami and probably won't come back often. Remember to visit and chat with me when you're free."
Jimmy: "I will."
Dave has reached retirement age. He could have returned to the Washington, D.C., headquarters early, but he refused. This works out, as regardless of who comes to take over his role later, nobody can touch Jimmy, which is already a consensus. Wait a few more years until they really can't suppress it anymore. At least the career ceiling has almost been reached, though it's invisible and untouchable, but it's always there.
Sometimes, within an organization, certain rules must be observed. Unless one can forcefully break through, it's better to live life peacefully. Jimmy is just such a person living life.

(Some main characters complete the ending here, hoping to make up for my previous mistakes. As for the other people and links, I'll supplement them when I have time.)
