Chapter 111: To The Frontlines
Chapter 111: To The Frontlines
After confirming their relationship and sending her away, Raiden finally felt like a stone had been put down in his chest.
He couldn’t help but smile when he thought about the last words she said before leaving.
"You are my man now. I will not let anyone have you. You’re stuck with me now, for always and forever."
A strange feeling couldn’t help but rise from his chest when he thought about her. The more he thought about it, the happier he got, until he started laughing loudly.
"Hahaha, I, Raiden Ashford, finally have a girlfriend now!! Suck it, losers!! Suck it, the world!! Suck it, the universe!! WAHAHAHAHAHA!!"
"What are you doing, brother?? So lame." A flat voice called out from behind, causing Raiden to choke.
He turned around to find everyone from the farm looking at him with weird looks in their eyes. A flush ran up to his face when he thought they had seen him skipping and saying such chunibou words. But he wasn’t a Level 7 Shameless for nothing.
"Heh, what do little girls like you know what love is. This is my way of expressing it, okay?? I’m expressing my love for her. You are too small to understand it, anyway." Raiden waved her off with a hand, making her puff her cheeks in anger.
"Love?? Bullshit. I have seen people in love, and none of them acts like an 8th grader like you do." Sylvia fired back immediately.
"Then they are not in true love. Those little shits are just hor—" Raiden froze mid-sentence as he felt a sudden chill go down his spine.
He almost forgot Ruby was also there, staring at him closely with her eyes, making him curse out aloud in his mind.
"Anyways, just remember my words, if the person isn’t giggling to himself out of nowhere or laughing while staring at his phone for too long, that’s not real love." Raiden finished his speech.
"You did goodd Rai Rai~ Good girls likee that aree hard to come byy. Don’t hurtt her or elsee~" Hearing the threat from Ruby’s voice, Raiden fell into confusion.
’Are you sure you are my aunt and not an impostor?? Why are you always looking for a reason to hurt me? Am I not worth anything??’
"Well, she has gone to Archon Academy for studies. Won’t you reconsider it, brother?? You can go there to study too and be together all the time!!" Sylvia chimed in from the side, hoping to change his mind.
She still thought he was sacrificing himself for her sake, and she finally found a solid reason to convince him otherwise. She had fully accepted this new sister-in-law of his. She was probably too out of Raiden’s league.
"Heh. Do you think I am stupid?? No way I am going to study again. Anyone who wants to go study in that bullshit Academy can go for all I care. I am staying right here. Don’t try to convince me otherwise." Raiden said with a sneer on his face.
Why would he go out of his way to suffer even more when he can perfectly stay at his farm and get stronger while lying down?
’Plus, our paths are too different. We are not of the same world.’
Raiden shook his head to clear himself of these thoughts.
He didn’t have time to think about these things. Neva will probably evolve to Silver Tier by today, and tomorrow, it will be finally time to visit the frontlines.
------------------------------
It was already the next morning by the time Raiden arrived at his destination.
He looked at the massive, almost 300 meters tall wall in front of him, which looked like it had been baptised by blood and rust.
Shaking his head, Raiden made his way forward to the small checkpoint gate in front of him, where few soilders stood in dark green uniform, holding what looked like Lazer guns.
He held both Woolie and Neva tightly as he inched forward slowly in the line. It was a military base after all, and he didn’t want to get shot or arrested because his sheep wreaked havoc.
"Sha Sha~" Neva looked around curiously as she observed the place. Her body looked different from before, with the tips of her feet having turned golden and a golden crown-like pattern that appeared on her head.
Her body had turned even smaller than before, if possible, as she was happily hidden amongst Raiden’s hair, observing the world around her freely.
Soon it was Raiden’s turn as he made his way forward through the checkpoint.
"Name?"
"Raiden Ashford."
"Purpose??"
"Freelance Hunter."
"Rank??"
"Silver Tier."
"Is it your first time here, boy?" A rough-looking middle-aged man asked with a smirk.
"Yes. Any advice for me, seniors??" Raiden asked humbly.
"Not bad, not bad. You have humility. But lose it once you go inside." The man commented, causing Raiden to fall into confusion.
Seeing that dumbfounded look, the man burst into laughter, while his partner shook his head and ignored him.
"Raiden, right? Once you go past these walls, it’s a different world out there. Be very careful out there. The beasts are not the only source of danger out there. There are far more dangerous things. Hide your wealth, don’t show off, never show any weakness, and if possible, don’t trust anyone except the soldiers, got it??" The man reminded him with a serious tone.
He didn’t want this young-looking fellow to throw his life away due to carelessness.
Hearing his words, Raiden adopted a serious expression on his face.
"Understood. Thank you for your advice." A small blush crept up the soldier’s face as he heard the sincerity in Raiden’s voice.
"Well, it’s not as serious as I made it out to be. Most people are friendly, mostly. Do take care of yourself. In the wild, there is only one law: that there are no laws." After patting Raiden’s shoulders, the man let him pass, moving on to the next person in line.
Raiden made his way through the narrow corridor, his heart a little tense. He really didn’t want to come to this kind of dangerous place, but he needed to feed his Terrans.
After walking for five minutes, Raiden exited from the path, only to stumble upon one of the most chaotic scenes he had seen in his life.
Small stalls and people were paddling their wares, others were arguing, and some were even challenging each other to Terra Duels. It looked less like a military outpost and more like a chaotic farmers’ market.
There were soldiers all around the market, who looked at the brawls, haggling and arguing with interest from time to time, but none of them interfered as they observed this scene coldly.
"Woolie!!" Woolie, on the other hand, felt like he right in his element. This chaotic mess of the crowd looked really fun to him, and he couldn’t wait to go out and have fun.
Raiden quickly tightened his hold on the sheep in fright.
"Just wait for a little bit, okay? Once we are in the jungle, you can run wild. Remember what you promised me. You need to stick close to protect your little sister." Raiden reminded him in a low tone, causing Woolie to stop struggling as his ears dropped down.
Knowing Woolie, he was sure he would cause an untold amount of chaos if he were set free. Therefore, Raiden coaxed him (fooled) into making a promise to stick with him and Neva to protect his new little sister.
The gullible little sheep patted its chest and promised easily. Now he wasn’t able to run around anymore, causing him to sulk.
"Excuse me, can you tell me where the mission centre is??" Raiden approached the nearest guard and asked.
"A newbie, huh? Just walk straight, and you’ll see a big round building, the biggest of the lot. Can’t miss it."
"Thank you." Raiden thanked him before he started walking towards the way the soldier pointed him to.
After a few minutes, he walked into the said building pointed by the soldier.
It was truly a hard-to-miss building, looking like it was made up of rusted metal that could fall apart anytime, with guards standing at the gates.
The scene inside the building was much less chaotic from the outside, with people lining up in front of 10 different counters obediently.
Raiden joined one of the lines, waiting for his turn. Standing in front of him was a rough-looking buff man in a black tank top and cargo pants, someone who came straight out of 90s action military movies.
"Is it your first time here, kid??" The man asked curiously as he peered at Raiden and his young face.
"Nope, what about you, man??" Raiden replied casually as he observed him.
"Me?? I practically live here in the zone!! If you ever want to buy any kind of information, like a map of wilderness or something else, you can hit me up!! I will give you the best price guaranteed." The man patted his chest in guarantee, generating an enormous sound, attracting attention from everyone near them.
One of the people glanced at the scene curiously, before his eyes widened in excitement as he ignored everything and ran out of the building.
He quickly pulled out his cellphone and dialled a number in excitement.
"Boss!! Boss!! I have amazing news!! Remember that guy you wanted to capture?! Raiden something?! He is out here in the wilderness now!!"
